Our Mission
LINK, Inc. exists to provide emergency food and financial assistance to
qualified people in need in the Herndon, Sterling,
and Ashburn, Virginia communities.
Why We Do This
The all-volunteer staff members at LINK believe in the power of selfless
service and the importance of providing people in crisis with
unconditional love. This love includes commitment, compassion, and the
courage to serve the sick, abused, hurt, unloved, and powerless.
How We Work
LINK, Inc. is an "all volunteer" emergency support organization
in Northern Virginia. This organization
currently consists of a group of dedicated churches, organizations, and
individuals that provide food and financial assistance to qualified
people in need. Volunteers do
all the work, and most goods are received from donations.
In 2006 LINK touched almost 7,000 people using a budget of around
$50,000.00. All monies and material donations went directly to people in
our community. LINK spent about 7% of its budget on operating
expenses, which included Food Pantry maintenance, water and sewer,
telephone, electricity, office supplies and insurance.
In addition to food, LINK provided financial assistance in the form of
grocery gift certificates for food to those-in-need ($20,000 in 2006).
LINK
also provided financial assistance in cash for social services-approved
medical prescriptions, utility bills and rent.
LINK History
LINK was originally established to support the Sterling and eastern Loudoun
communities in 1972. LINK was once an acronym that stood for
"Loudoun Interdenominational Network for Karing."
The LINK organization eventually spread to Fairfax County
in 1975 increasing its support coverage to the Herndon community. By
combining the community resources from two great counties, LINK's vision is to increase the quantity and quality
of services to the needy. LINK Incorporated was chartered as a "Not
for Profit Organization" in 1978. Currently the name represents
Christians linked together to provide love and support to people living
in need.
LINK
Partnered with Free Clinics through "Neighbors in Need"
LINK teamed up
with the Herndon and Loudoun Free Clinics to help these organizations
supply much-needed prescription medication to those they serve in our
area. The "Neighbors in Need" project was made possible by a
federal grant.
