Volunteer for the Holiday Program

Every year the goal is to provide each family with a week’s worth of non-perishable food in November and again in December.  When funds allow, grocery gift cards are also included.  In November, clients also receive a voucher for coats and warm clothing.  In December, children 16 and under receive  gifts.

In 2017, LINK served 827 families (4300+ individuals) on Saturday, December 16th. More than 5000 toys were distributed to the 2174 children (newborn – 16 years of age) registered for assistance. We also distributed 28,000+ pounds of food that would provide 3 days of food to each family and $24,895 in grocery gift cards. 300+ gently used coats were distributed to the families, as well. More than 200 volunteers came and helped sort food & toys, escort clients, shop for food, clothing & toy needs, load vehicles, register families and restock food & toys.

Registration for 2018 will be during early October. Please check back in September for specific dates. If you need more information about our holiday program, please emails us at holiday@linkagainsthunger.org.

This important holiday program occurs twice annually because of the large outpouring of the community—food, funds, and volunteers—and the grace of God, much larger than what the LINK member churches could do on their own.

If you would like to help, please email us at holiday@linkagainsthunger.org. Businesses can contact our Business Liaison, Carrie, at businessliaison@linkagainsthunger.org.

I would like to thank our LINK board and member churches who were amazing in their abundance of time and energy. The holiday programs take many hours of time and the dedication of a core group of volunteers ensures the success. True Christ-like service is selfless and focuses on others. Deuteronomy 15:11 says, “There will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.'” I believe that this is our call to be the hands and feet of Jesus – to show our neighbors God’s love through our actions. There were 827 families who felt that love on December 16th. They know that they are not forgotten and that someone touched their lives whether it was through a teenager who escorted them around a room filled with food or toys, a kind smiling fraternity member who stood in the cold and loaded their groceries into their car or a smiling volunteer who wished them a Merry Christmas.

Thank you to the many businesses, churches, scouting groups and individuals who donated to LINK.
