Town
of Herndon Resolution
of Appreciation
The Herndon, VA Town Council issued a resolution on April 13, 2004
recognizing LINK for "the outstanding service and invaluable
contributions it provides the community." Members of the LINK
executive committee accepted the award at the Town Council meeting on
behalf of the entire organization of volunteers.
Loudoun County Resolution of Appreciation
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors presented LINK with a Resolution
of Appreciation Award on January 20, 2004 for over 30 years of service to
the community.
Victory
Against Hunger Award
On July 25, 2000, LINK received national recognition when it was awarded
the Victory Against Hunger Award from the Congressional Hunger Center and
Victory Wholesale Grocers. The two organizations team up to reward local
anti-hunger organizations that have worked to effectively fight hunger in
their communities. LINK was nominated by its regional Congressman, Frank
Wolf, who points to a figure of 25 million people in our nation living in
households affected by hunger or nourishment problems. The Victory
Against Hunger selection included a $1000 grant underwritten by Victory
Wholesale Grocers. LINK was one of only 15 food banks selected nationally
for the year 2000 award and the only one from Virginia. The selection committee
specifically chose LINK for its innovative method of transporting food
from the storage pantry directly to those residences in need in less than
48 hours. The organization's intensive networking with local churches and
civic groups to serve the Eastern Loudoun
and Herndon area was also cited.
Volunteer
Awards
Each year the Town of Herndon recognizes an
outstanding volunteer. In the past LINK volunteers George Lingg, Ed Foy,
Linda Tacci, Maureen Dawson, Del Gochnauer and Mary Kay Stine received
this prestigious award.
Loudoun's most outstanding volunteers were
lauded Tuesday 19 April 2005 at the Board of Supervisors meeting and LINK
President Nancy Smith and Vice President Robert Duchesneau received
the Loudoun Volunteer Services Outstanding Volunteer Organization Award.
Joy Trickett (2005) and
Kenny Thayer
(2008) received the Loudoun Volunteer Services Outstanding Adult Volunteer
Award for their work with LINK.
